Suva Reka

Suhareka ( Albanian: Suharekë, or Theranda or Therandë; Serbian Сува Река / Suva Reka ) is a town in southern Kosovo. It is also the seat of the municipality of the same bulk. According to the Serbian administration breakdown is Suhareka in the district of Prizren.

Etymology

The name is Serbian origin and means "dry river ".

History

Near Suhareka was the NATO base Camp Casablanca, the Austrian, Swiss and German (sometimes U.S. ) troops were stationed. From there, several projects of CIMIC among other things, the establishment of a HTL school were coordinated. The building was designed, among other things by volunteers entirely student of Austrian technical colleges, and sponsors from the Austrian economy. The mentioned projects were materially from Sr. Johanna Schwab supported and directed ( by the Sisters of Charity ). In August 2012, Camp Casablanca was closed and handed over to the site of the Municipality of Suhareka. Now the city council is planning the construction of industrial and commercial buildings, education institutions and a market on the site.

Twinning

Suhareka maintains a close partnership with the Baden- Württemberg town of Fellbach. The collaboration resulted both in a variety of cultural exchanges between associations of both communities as well as in construction and joint operation of youth and educational institution " Fellbach -Haus" in which, among other things, traumatized children were cared for after the war.
