Suzakumon

The Suzakumon (Japanese朱雀 门, also: Shujakumon ) was the gate, which was located at the southern end of the palace area. Suzaku is the Japanese name of the red bird, the Chinese patron god of the south.

The built after the Chinese model capitals of Japan Fujiwara - kyō ( Kashihara ), Heijo - kyō ( Nara ) and Heian - kyō ( Kyoto ), it was located at the northern end of the main street Suzaku ōji. At the southern end of which was the Rajomon.

Reconstruction in Nara

In 1993 it was decided to reconstruct the gate of Nara. Since no structural remains were left over, the reconstruction of the appearance proved to be very difficult. Then, a model was developed on the basis of comparisons with other architectural buildings from this period. In addition to traditional materials and concrete was, for reasons of earthquakes used. The reconstructed gate was opened to the public in 1998.
