Suzanne Farrell

Suzanne Farrell ( born August 16, 1945 in Cincinnati, born Roberta Sue Ficker ) is an American ballet dancer. She is considered one of the most famous ballerinas of the 20th century and founded the Suzanne Farrell Ballet.

Life

Farrell began her dance training at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music. 1959 allowed her a scholarship from the Ford Foundation to study at the School of American Ballet, she started in 1960.

1961 Farrell Member of the corps de ballet of the New York City Ballet. She quickly got her first solo roles, some of which were choreographed especially for them. In 1965 she was appointed as Principal Dancer. Farrell and Meija returned in 1970 to the New York City Ballet 's back to dance in Europe, among others, with the ballet company of Maurice Béjart.

1975 Farrell returned back to Balanchine and the New York City Ballet. Their relationship lasted until his death in April 1983. His last works were written for Farrell solos.

After 28 years as an active dancer Farrell gave in 1989 to their profession. She began to work out the Balanchine choreography with other companies, including the Ballet of the Vienna State Opera, the Ballet of the Berlin State Opera, the Paris Opera Ballet and the Bolshoi ballet. The New York City Ballet announced their 1993 her job as a trainer.

Farrell's collaboration with the Kennedy Center began in 1993 with two master classes for students. In 1995 it became a national program to support artistic training of American youth that has the Kennedy Center the task. The success there as well as a tour titled Suzanne Farrell Stages the Masters of 20th Century Ballet in 2000 led to the founding of their own company, the Suzanne Farrell Ballet, now the company of the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC She joined since its establishment there and on tours in the U.S., Canada, and the Edinburgh International Festival.

Awards

Farrell has been awarded the honorary doctorate of Harvard, Yale, Notre Dame, Georgetown and others. Since 2000 she is a professor of dance at Florida State University. In 2003 she received the National Medal of Arts, the 2005 Kennedy Award and the Capezio Dance Award.
