The GSX -R 1000 is a motorcycle in the superbike category the Japanese manufacturer Suzuki. It was introduced in 2001 on the German market.
The first model of the GSX- R 1000 with a liquid-cooled 988 cc 16V DOHC inline four- cylinder with a transverse crankshaft was one of the first production motorcycle with a power to weight ratio of approximately one kilogram ( kg) per horsepower, namely 118 kW (160 hp) at 170 kg dry weight. 2002 unregulated catalytic converter and a better coating of the fork was introduced the previous year in addition to the colors, as these wear at the K1 models in many machines over time.
At Suzuki, it is common that every 2 years new models of their sports machines are introduced. So one can say that all the odd "K " models are new releases and have the straight only small changes and new colors.
Already in 2003, the new model GSX -R was introduced in 1000 K3. In addition to a completely new design, frame and chassis, the engine developed 121 kW now (164 hp), the dry weight was reduced by two to 168 kg. An important innovation was the radial front brake with 300 mm brake discs now.
Technique (model 2005/2006)
Suzuki sets in the GSX- R 1000 has always been the proven engine concept, a liquid-cooled inline four- cylinder engine with two overhead camshafts and four titanium valves per cylinder. An electronic multi-point fuel injection is common in this class, but Suzuki combined with two butterfly valves per cylinder, giving the engine a smooth throttle response and strong pulling already helping in the medium speed range.
The chassis consists of an aluminum bridge frame, a fully adjustable, carbonitride - coated 43 -mm upside-down fork and a massive aluminum swingarm with an indirectly articulated, fully adjustable central strut. A standard steering damper suppresses kickback ( " kickback" ) effective, an anti - hopping clutch ( "Slipper Clutch" ) prevents stamping rear when shifting while braking hard down. The exhaust system was first fully made of titanium.
The GSX- R 1000 has a powerful brake system with front two 310 -mm brake discs, radially mounted 4- piston fixed calipers Tokico and a finely metered radial brake pump.
When K5/K6 there was a recall for frame breakage. Here, a reinforcement is adhered to the frame. Only the K9 has a completely redesigned frame.
Racing
Since 2004, the GSX -R 1000 Suzuki homologation model for the Superbike World Championship, sparking the used of Regulations reasons to date GSX -R 750 from. Racing -adapted versions of the GSX- R 1000 also start in the Superstock class as well as in long-distance races various racing series.
2007-2009 drove Max Neukirchen for the Suzuki GSX- R1000 in the Superbike World Championship.
