Svatopluk Beneš

Svatopluk Beneš ( born February 24, 1918 in Roudnice, † April 27, 2007 in Prague) was a Czech film actor. He was considered one of the last Czech film stars of the first Czechoslovak Republic.

Life and work

Svatopluk Benes began his film career in 1934 with a supporting role in the romantic drama film directed by Svatopluk Band of srdcí Innemann. He was known primarily as a Lieutenant Lukas in the film adaptation of the Good Soldier Svejk from the year 1955. Beneš was involved in around 80 films, most recently in 2003 in the Oscar-nominated co-production Zelary. Svatopluk Beneš has previously had to be shooting this film at a dementia disease and was housed in the last years of his life in a Prague hospital. He died at the age of 89 years.
