Svea Court of Appeal

The Svea hovrätt in Stockholm is the largest of the six hovrätter in Sweden. The court is a court of appeal and is roughly equivalent to a German higher regional court. Report to him 15 district courts ( tingsrätter ) and it treats annually about 10,000 recruits. It was founded in 1614 as the first Swedish court of its kind and was valid until the establishment of the Högsta domstolen 1789 as the highest court instance, under the King and the Imperial Council.

The judicial district includes the provinces of Stockholm County, Uppsala County, Södermanland County, Gotland County, Västmanland County, Dalarna County. The court also is the highest court in the land environment. Under him are five environmental courts.

The Svea hovrätt has its headquarters in Wrangel Palace on Riddarholmen in Stockholm since 1756. However, the court nine departments are also distributed to the Palais Hessenstein, Palais Schering Rosenhane, Östra Gymnasiehuset as well as parts of the old Reichstag.
