Sven Nilsson

Sven Nilsson ( born March 8, 1787 Court Alfastorp in Landskrona, † November 30, 1883 in Lund ) was a Swedish naturalist.

Nilsson studied from 1806 at Lund University and graduated in 1811 with the fil. likes. from. In 1812 he was appointed to the work De variis mammalia disponendi modis for teachers of natural history. In 1819 he was director of the Zoological Museum in Lund, examined the fisheries in Bohuslän and Norway, took over in 1828 the supervision of the Zoological Museum in Stockholm, but returned back in 1832 as a professor of zoology and director of the museum to Lund. In 1838 he received the pastorate in the Församling Nöbbelöf (now Nöbbelöv in the community Skurup ) as stipend.

Part of his research devoted Nilsson of ichthyology, which he published three works. 1838-1843 he wrote the also translated into German and English Skandinaviska North urinvånare, which is considered fundamental work to Old Norse Archaeology

Already in 1821 Nilsson member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, 1841 Kungliga och Vitterhets History Antikvitets academies. Also, various foreign companies, he belonged to. 1845 to 1846 he was rector of the University of Lund and lived from 1856 as professor emeritus in Stockholm.
