SVK

SVK [ ˌ vi ː ˌ ɛs keɪ ] is a distributed software version control system. There is a program running on the computer of the developer program, which is written in Perl, but can read the Subversion filesystem, and thus reuse. SVK is for this reason no Subversion replace but complements this. It is also possible, with SVK to mirror a software repository from Subversion, Perforce or CVS locally in order to also work without an Internet connection based on the local mirror and to synchronize later.

Working groups can work together by sharing their changes against one or more Subversion server. SVK behaves like a Subversion client, but facilitates the branching and merging with the effect that a entkoppeltere software development is possible, similar to git.

Originally SVK Chia Liang Kao was developed with the beginning of his sabbatical in 2003.

On 28 May 2009, the ODC developer announced that SVK is no longer actively developed. Justification of this is the fact that the concept of a distributed Subversion extension with the breakthrough of distributed version control systems has become obsolete. An equivalent functionality offer the Subversion bindings of version control systems such as git or mercurial.
