Svyatoslav Fyodorov

Svyatoslav Nikolayevich Fyodorov (Russian Святослав Николаевич Фёдоров; born August 8, 1927 in Khmelnytsky / Ukraine; † June 2, 2000 in Moscow) was a Russian professor of ophthalmology, politician and presidential candidate. He is considered one of the pioneers of refractive surgery.

Biography

Fyodorov graduated from the Medical College of Rostov-on- Don and worked as a general practitioner near Rostov. In 1960 he was the first ophthalmologist in the Soviet Union, a replacement of the crystalline lens by intraocular surgery by. Became internationally known Fyodorov. Primarily by his invention of radial keratotomy, which is considered the predecessor of the LASIK procedure for the correction of myopia 1980 Fyodorov was head of the Moscow Research Institute for Eye Microsurgery.
