Swedish railway signalling

Railway signals in Sweden, which are used in Sweden, is based on the signal images of the shape signals. Nowadays, optical signals are exclusively used with the ATC system. The speed limit through the signal images applies only to vehicles without ATC. The cab signaling normally allows higher speeds.

Form signals ( semaphore ) are no longer included in the current signal book. They are available only on museum railways and very occasionally on secondary lines. A rare example of this is the Moskosel station on the Inland Railway. Swedish form signals are similar to the German, only that they are placed on the left side of the line and, consequently, in - driving free - position of the wings shows up to the left.

Main signals

Main signals follow each other at a distance of at least 800 m and not more than 3000 m. If the following main signal is more than 3000 meters, this will be announced on a separate distant signal.

Distant signals

The distant signals are at a distance of about 1000 to 1200 m before the next main signal.
