Sweet Sensation (band)

Sweet Sensation was a British soul band of the 1970s.

Band History

1971 was formed around the two British Marcel King and Gary Shaugnessy from Manchester the band Sensations. Other members were the five Jamaican Junior Daye, Roy Flowers, Vincent James, Barry Johnson and Leroy Smith and St. Clair L. Palmer of St. Kitts. In 1973, she won the television talent competition New Faces. A record deal with juror and successful producer Tony Hatch and renamed because of the same name in Sweet Sensation followed.

The first single Snowfire 1974 was still unsuccessful, but with the second single Sad Sweet Dreamer, who had Hatch wrote with Desmond Parton, they had the success that makes them known to this day. The song reached # 1 in England and could also place internationally. Their music was right on the line of the popular U.S. Phillysounds. In most countries, however, it remained a one- hit wonder, and also in their home already missed the second single Purely by Coincidence just the top 10 more singles they could not place on the charts.

In 1977, she went in the national finals for the Euro Vision Song Contest at the start, covered with You're My Sweet Sensation but only eighth. Then they lost their record contract and the band began to fall apart.

In the 1980s, Marcel King went solo career, but was unsuccessful with his single Reach for Love ( 1984). He died in 1995 at the age of 38 of a cerebral hemorrhage. Bassist Barry Johnson joined 1983, the New Wave band Quando Quango and later the reggae band Aswad on.
