The under construction Sykea Dam ( Greek φράγμα Συκιάς, Fragma Sykias ) is a large hydraulic engineering project in Greece. The project waters of Achelous is transferred to Thessaly and a vast area of energy and irrigation water are supplied.
The project consists of the construction of a rockfill dam and a 952 m long water pipe made of concrete with 11 m diameter.
The dam will have a building volume of 9.6 (or 11.6 ) million cubic meters and a central core made of mud. The maximum total height is 165 ( or 170 ) m and its length 440 m. The Sykea dam will be built close to the villages of Sykea and Piges in the central regions of Greece Arta and Karditsa. The planned construction period for all construction work is 65 months.
The hydropower plant is to get two turbines and a total capacity of 120 megawatts.
