The Symantec Corp. ( NASDAQ: SYMC ) is a US-based software company, which was founded in 1982. It is listed on the NASDAQ since June 23, 1989. The company's headquarters is located since October 5, 2009 in Mountain View ( California / USA), near the geographic center of Silicon Valley. The former headquarters was in Cupertino (California / USA). Symantec claims to have offices in 40 countries and employs approximately 18,500 people.

In December 2004, the Company announced the backup specialists VERITAS to take software for 13.5 billion U.S. dollars. With the acquisition, the company has grown to become one of the world's largest software houses.

Huawei Symantec founded in 2008 with the joint venture "Huawei Symantec ".

Management

At the end of Symantec 's fiscal year 2008 John W. Thompson resigned as CEO and president. Since April 4, 2009 was Enrique Salem (formerly COO) President and CEO of Symantec. With LiveUpdate Symantec offers a method to download product updates.
