Symonds Yat

Symonds Yat is an English village in the Wye Valley and Forest of Dean. It lies on both sides of the Wye and is therefore divided into Symonds Yat East ( Gloucestershire ) and Symonds Yat West ( Herefordshire ). Over the river carries a drawn by hand cable ferry which transports both pedestrians and cyclists.

Overall, the place is a popular tourist destination. Several activities such as hiking (from Symonds Yat East, a footpath leads to the situated above the village of Symonds Yat Rock, a popular lookout point over the Wye Valley), camping, canoeing and kayaking ( nearby are the Symonds artificially produced Yat Rapids, rapids of strength 2) and leisurely boat trips are possible. Several hotels, cafes and pubs are located on both sides of the river.

A short walk from Symonds Yat West away towards the north is also located the place Whitchurch, in which a maze and a butterfly garden are.

The place is also part of the Wye Valley Walks, a long-distance footpath, which in the Brecon Beacons leads from the source of the river to its confluence with the Mouth of Severn in South Wales.
