Symphony No. 3 (Tchaikovsky)

The Symphony No. 3 in D major, Op 29 ( "Polish " ) is a symphony by Russian composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. The epithet is based on the Polonaise used in the final movement.

Formation

The symphony was created in 1875 shortly after Tchaikovsky's First Piano Concerto and the ballet Swan Lake.

The frequent criticism raised point, Tchaikovsky's symphonies were in the nature of a suite, the following is closest to the third symphony. Within Tchaikovsky's work it is the only symphony has five movements and is in a major key.

The standing in sonata form first movement is initiated by a funeral march and turns into a lively main theme and a poetic side issue; Moreover, it contains contrapuntal elements. In the second movement Landler dance and waltz rhythms alternate. The idyllic third movement is reminiscent of Ludwig van Beethoven's Sixth Symphony, the "Pastoral". In the fourth movement, there are march-like rhythms. Contains Energetic fifth set, like the first movement, contrapuntal elements and Polonaise containing a fugati terminated by the Symphony "Polish " got its nickname.

Effect

The first performance of the symphony took place in Moscow on November 7, 1875; as in Tchaikovsky's Second Symphony of a friend of the composer Nikolai Grigoryevich Rubinstein was conducting.

The following year, the Russian critic Laroche described the work as the biggest musical event of the decade. Nevertheless, it is, as well as Tchaikovsky's First Symphony and Second Symphony, the success of the " big three ", namely the Fourth Symphony, Fifth Symphony and Sixth Symphony overshadowed.

Despite the success of the third symphony of the public Tchaikovsky criticized themselves for their lack of creative ideas.
