Synovitis
Synovitis is an inflammation of the inner layer of the joint capsule, the synovial membrane ( synovium, synovial membrane ). Histological assessment is made on the synovitis score.
Acute synovitis
The acute synovitis is characterized by a predominantly granulocytic infiltration of the synovial membrane. It manifests itself in hyperemia (increased blood flow ), increased vascular permeability with edema of the synovial membrane and subsequent joint effusion.
Chronic synovitis
In chronic synovitis occurs lymphomonozytäre and plasmacytic infiltration. Partly it comes to villous ( = shaggy ) proliferations Synoviadeckzellen ( villous synovitis ) with the formation of pannus tissue, especially in rheumatoid arthritis.
