Systems Biology Ontology

The Systems Biology Ontology ( engl. Systems Biology Ontology ), abbreviated SBO, is a collection of terms defined labels for entities, events and processes in systems biology models. The terms contained therein were 3 integral part of the systems biology markup language (English Systems Biology Markup Language) to components therein contained clearly labeled to SBML Level 2 Version with. The driving force for the development of SBO is to provide biology with a scientific from other disciplines, especially engineering, known ambiguity in the communication of processes.

All terms of SBO are numbered consecutively by a unique identification number. The concepts are summarized in a directed acyclic graph, that is, there are generic terms ( categorical ) and detailed terms. Some terms have been marked as obsolete (English obsolete). These will continue to be managed for compatibility reasons but should not be used.

The SBO can be searched on the website of the European Bioinformatics Institute (EBI ).
