Syunik Province

Syunik (Armenian Սյունիք, scientific transliteration Syunik ' ) is the most south-eastern province of Armenia. At 4506 km ² here about 134 061 people ( as of 2002). Provincial capital is Kapan, more cities are Sisian, Goris and Kadscharan.

However, Syunik bordered to the northwest by the province Wajoz Dzor, to the east by Azerbaijan to international law, de facto, to the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, to the south by Iran and the Azerbaijani exclave to the west of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.

Along the border with Nakhichevan runs the - with the exception of the volcano Aragats - the highest part of the Armenian highlands on the territory of Armenia, the Sangesurkamm with its highest peak Kaputdschugh ( 3905 m).

As the only border crossing is in Syunik Armenia with Iran, the province for foreign trade of Armenia has a special significance, since the borders with Turkey and Azerbaijan are closed.
