Szamotuły

Szamotuły [ ʃamɔ'tuwɨ ] ( German Samter ) is a town in the Greater Poland Voivodeship in Poland. It has 18,700 inhabitants and is the county seat of powiat Szamotulski. The city is located 32 km northwest of Poznan.

History

The first known settlement in the place of Szamotuły already existed in the 11th century. It was destroyed in 1306 and rebuilt later under the name Nowe Szamotuły. In 1420 she received the city rights.

In 1793, the city came to the Kingdom of Prussia. From 1815 to 1918, she was in the province of Posen seat of the German circle Samter and, after the Treaty of Versailles of Poland.

Attractions

Among the attractions of the city, the church of Mother Bożej Pocieszenia i heard Sw. Stanisław Biskupa, which was built in the years 1423 to 1430 in the Gothic style. The buildings of the former monastery Sw. Krzyża in the Baroque style were built in the years 1675-1682.
