T. Colin Campbell

T. Colin Campbell ( b. 1934 ) is an American biochemist and nutrition researcher emeritus university professor.

Biography

Campbell grew up on a dairy farm and studied veterinary medicine at the Pennsylvania State University, which he left in 1956 with a Bachelor of Science. He then studied for one year that the University of Georgia and at Cornell University where he received his Master of Science in Biochemistry and Nutritional Sciences in 1958. 1961 doctorate Campbell to the Ph.D. in nutrition, biochemistry and microbiology.

He first worked as a research associate at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and then for 10 years at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in the Department of Biochemistry and Nutritional Sciences. In 1975, he returned to Cornell University, where he worked in the Department of Nutritional Sciences. In this capacity he also served as a scientific advisor for the American Institute for Cancer Research and the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine operates. He is also a member of the National Academy of Sciences and is a lecturer at the Chinese Academy of Preventive Medicine.

Research focus

Campbell was scientific director of the so-called "China - Cornell - Oxford Project ," one in rural China in the 1970s and 1980s conducted epidemiological study. There data on nutrition, the environment, lifestyle and diseases of the participants were collected. The study was a collaboration between the U.S. Cornell University and the British University of Oxford with the Chinese Chinese Academy of Preventive Medicine. With over 6500 participants, the study was one of the largest of its kind, was described by the New York Times as the " Grand Prix of epidemiology ".

Campbell interprets results from this study project to the effect that a diet with animal products to human health harms organism, the probability of the occurrence of cancer, diabetes, autoimmune diseases, cardiovascular diseases and other significantly increases. In 2004 he published this under the title The China Study a nonfiction book in which he as a consequence of a predominantly vegan diet and a reduced intake of processed foods and refined carbohydrates is recommended. A prominent users of the propagated by Campbell diet is Bill Clinton.

Documentary

In 2011, a 90-minute documentary titled " Forks Over Knives " was released, which is engaged in the research of T. Colin Campbell and his colleagues Caldwell Esselstyn. The film gives an overview of the China Study and other studies on the subject of vegetable or vegan diet.
