T. K. G. Herzog

Carl Julius Theodor Herzog ( * July 7, 1880 in Freiburg im Breisgau, † May 6, 1961 in Jena ) was a German botanist, Bryologe and university professor. Its official botanical author abbreviation is " Duke ."

Life and work

Duke studied in Freiburg, Zurich, and Munich with Ludwig Radlkofer. In Munich, the promotion followed in 1903. 1907 he habilitated in Zurich with Carl Schroeter.

From 1914 he taught at the University of Munich, first as a lecturer, in 1920 as an associate professor and in 1925 received a professorship at the University of Jena as Professor of Botany.

Duke undertook major expeditions to Sardinia (1904 and 1906), Ceylon ( 1905-1906 ) and South America, there mainly Bolivia and northern Argentina ( 1907-1908, 1910-1912 ).

Honors

1955 awarded him an honorary doctorate from the University of Greifswald.
