T. M. Aluko

Timothy Mofolorunso Aluko ( born June 14, 1918 in Ilesha, Osun State, Nigeria; † 1, 2010 in Lagos, Lagos State, Nigeria ) was a Nigerian writer. He was praised known as a writer of short stories and novels in the English language and in particular for his satirical style. Accompanied by great public interest Aluko published in 2009 his last book Our Born Again President, 50 years after the publication of his first novel.

Life

T.M. Aluko was born in a polygamous family, who nevertheless was based on Christian values. After visiting the church -run Holy Trinity School in Amofe and the Government College in Ibadan, he studied at the Yaba Higher College, Imperial College of Science and Technology in London and at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne. Trained as a civil engineer, he joined the Nigerian administration and rose to Director of Public Works of the former Western Region Nigeria. After emerging from the administrative service, he focused on an academic career and taught among other things, at the University of Lagos.

Aluko 1987 suffered a stroke and was partially paralyzed ever since. It is reported that he was a fighter and to write with his left hand, taught, because he could not move his right hand.

Aluko was married, his wife Bisi died already in 1996. One of his sons is the actor Tayo Aluko.
