Tacet

Tacet (lat. he / she / it is silent ) is a match statement in the music.

It means that the instrumentalist or singer paused in the labeled tacet section. Mostly it is in this section a set of a multi-movement piece of music. If this term is in a score at the end of a musical phrase, it is, for the instrumentalists concerned that he is silent until the end of the current segment.

The statement tacet should not be confused with a rhythmically defined pause after which the musician starts again.

The piece 4'33 "by John Cage, which is sometimes also called Tacet, is an extreme example of this musical term.
