Táchira

Táchira is one of the 23 states of Venezuela, located in the Andean region, in the west of the country. The capital of the state is San Cristóbal.

The name comes from " tachure ", the name of a plant ( Jatropha gossypifolia ) in a Chibcha language.

Economy

The main source of revenue is the livestock, fisheries and agriculture. Primarily grown garlic, bananas ( Cambur, the small, sweet version and Platano ), sugar cane, sugar, beans, onions, potatoes and tomatoes.

It also has mineral resources such as coal, copper, phosphorus and uranium.

In Táchira (and not in Zulia, today's oil center ), the first oil well in the country was promoted in 1878 (then drilling was carried out by hand ). Today, the oil production is almost come to a complete standstill.
