Tacobamba

Tacobamba is a village in the department of La Paz in the South American Andes State of Bolivia.

Location in near space

Tacobamba is the third largest town in the county ( bolivian: Municipio) Sapahaqui in the province Loayza. The village lies at an altitude Tacobamba of 3123 m on the Rio Sapahaqui in the northern foothills of the Serranía de Sicasica.

Geography

Tacobamba lies between the Bolivian Altiplano in the west and the Amazon lowlands to the east. The region has a typical diurnal climate, ie that the temperature difference between day and night is greater than the temperature difference between seasons.

The mean average temperature of the region is 11 ° C and varies between 8-9 ° C in June and 12-13 ° C in November. The annual rainfall is 500-600 mm, with a pronounced dry season during the months of June and July, and monthly rainfall of over 100 mm in January.

From La Paz the paved highway Ruta 1 leads south across El Alto to the south. 12 km south of El Alto branches off a country road to the southwest and follows the Río Cala Jahuira 20 km upstream. From there branches off a dirt access road from the northeast and leads to a further 37 km above Sapahaqui after Tacobamba.

Population

The population of the town at the 2001 census was 359 inhabitants.

Because of the historical population development, the Aymara population is predominant in Tacobamba, in the municipality of Sapahaqui 96.7 % of the population speak the Aymara language.
