Tadeusz Buk

Tadeusz Buk January (* December 15 1960 in Mójcza in the urban-rural municipality in the province Daleszyce Holy Cross; † 10 April 2010 Smolensk, Russia) was a Polish major general. Since September 2009, he was commander of the Polish Army.

Life

1984 ended the officer Buk College of armored forces ( Wyższa SzkoĹ Oficerska Wojsk Pancernych ) in Poznan and began his service as a tank platoon leader in the 29th Armoured Regiment ( 29 Pulk Czołgów Średnich ) in Żagań. In this unit, he remained seven years. In 1991 he began studying at the Faculty of ground troops ( Wydział Wojsk Lądowych ) of the National Defence College ( Akademia Obrony Narodowej ) in Warsaw. In the years 1993-1995 he served, among others, in the 18th landing assault battalion (18 Batalion Desantowo - Szturmowy ) and in the sixth landing Assault Brigade (6 Brygada Desantowo - Szturmowa ). From 1995 to 1998 Buk served in the 25th Brigade of Air Cavalry (25 Cavalry Brigade Powietrznej ) in Tomaszów. After the completion of a one year postgraduate course to the staff commander in the United States, he was finally appointed deputy commander of this unit in 1999. From 2002 to 2005 he was commander of the 34th brigade of the armored cavalry (34 Cavalry Brigade Pancernej ) in Żagań. On 15 August 2004, he was promoted to brigadier general. From 2004 to 2005 Buk was deputy commander of the Multinational Division Center -South ( Multinational Division Central - South ) in Iraq and then to 2006, Deputy Director of the NATO Headquarters Joint Force Training Centre in Bydgoszcz. From 2006 to 2007 he served as deputy commander of the Combined Security Transition Command - Afghanistan, CSTC -A short ( in German about: Transition Command United Security ), a unified bar, where he was responsible for building up the Afghan security system. On 15 June 2007 Buk took over the position of the commander of the 1st Warsaw automated Division (1 Warszawska Dywizja Zmechanizowana ). Just four weeks later, he was promoted on 10 July 2007 to Major General and was two weeks later on 25 July 2007 Commander of the Multinational Division in Multinational Division Central South in Iraq. On September 15, 2009 Buk was appointed by President Lech Kaczyński to the post of Commander of the Polish Land Forces.

On April 10, 2010 Tadeusz Buk belonged to a Polish delegation headed by President Lech Kaczyński, who was to travel on the occasion of the seventieth anniversary of the Katyn massacre to the memorial to Russia. However, in a plane crash of the delegation near the military airfield Smolensk - North he came together with other high-ranking representatives of Poland died.

On 16 April 2010 Buk was posthumously to Lieutenant General ( Generał broni ) transported and buried a day later on 17 April 2010 at the parish cemetery in Spała in powiat Tomaszowski in the region of Łódź.
