Tadeusz Peiper

Tadeusz Peiper ( May 3, 1891 in Krakow, † November 10, 1969 in Warsaw) was a Polish poet, art critic and literary theorist.

He is one of the thought leaders of the avant-garde in Poland and was a founding member of the Cracow avant-garde. In 1921 he founded the monthly magazine Zwrotnica, mainly devoted to the avant-garde currents of contemporary poetry. Zwrotnica appeared to 1923 and was revived for 1926/1927. Despite these short-lived, they paved the way for young poets of the Krakow avant-garde, among them Julian Przyboś Jan Brzękowski and Yalu Kurek. Peiper also published three remarkable poetry collections that are among the most modern Polish poetry. As an artist believed Peiper, the writer would like a consummate craftsman appear, the plan all his words carefully. A special effort must apply the verse melody and it was just to use an unambiguous imagery. He created the 3M slogan Miasto, Masa, Maszyna - Polish for City, Mass, machine, one of the buzzwords of Polish poetry of the 1920s.

After the outbreak of World War II, Peiper went to Lviv, where he worked together with Aleksander Wat. In 1940 he was arrested by the NKVD. Released in 1943, he became a member of the Związek Patriotów Polskich 1944 and returned back to Poland.
