Tadeusz Szeligowski

Tadeusz Szeligowski (* September 13, 1896 in Lviv, † January 10, 1963 in Poznań ) was a Polish composer and music educator.

Szeligowski attended high school and the Galician Music Conservatory in Lviv, where he had piano lessons with Vilém Kurz in music theory with Stanisław Neviadomski. From 1918 to 1922 he studied law at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow, next to the External 1921-1928 musicology. His teachers were Bolesław Wallek - Walewski and Zdzisław Jachimecki.

In 1923 he went to Vilna, where he taught from 1925 to 1927 History of Music at the Conservatory. With a grant from the Ministry of Education, he studied from 1929 to 1931 in Paris with Nadia Boulanger and Paul Dukas. After his return, he taught music theory and composition at the Music Academy in Poznan. During the Second World War, he was organist at the church of St Kazimierz in Vilnius.

1945 Szeligowski director of the Music School in Lublin, 1947 Head of the State University College of Opera in Poznan. At the same time, he headed the Poznań Philharmonic. In 1950 he received the title of professor. From 1951 to 1954 he was Chairman of the Board of the Polish Composers' Union. In 1961, he founded the Festival Poznańska Wiosna Muzyczna.
