Tadoma

Tadoma is the name of an artificial language, with which one can communicate with people who are both blind and born as deaf ( deaf- blindness).

The Tadoma system was developed in 1890 in Norway. It was named after the two deaf - blind children Tad Chapman ( Tad ) and Grandma Simpson ( grandmother ), who used it for the first time. Tadoma is a contact tongue, wherein the speech signals are sensed by sensing the articulation movement on the face of the speaker. Most of the thumb covers the lip movements, while the other fingers touching cheek and neck.
