Taenia (Greek for " belt " ) is a genus of the Real tapeworms. They parasitize the small intestine of carnivores and humans. Intermediate hosts are herbivores.
The tapeworm head ( scolex ) carries four suction cups, the rostellum in some species a double ring of hooks. The link chain ( strobila ) consists of numerous elements ( proglottids ). In any tapeworm there are numerous testes. The ovary is dumbbell- shaped, the genital opening marginal.
