The Taennchel ( German Taennchel ) is a 992 m high mountain in the Vosges in Alsace, France. It is located about 4 km north-west of Ribeauvillé.

The Taennchel massif sits as a mighty red sandstone block on a granite base. It separates the Strengbach - from Lebertal. Since 1983 there is in the woods again lynx.

On the 6 km long summit ridge possesses several interesting rock formations (including Rocher des Géants, Rocher du Crocodile ) with suspected prehistoric cult sites, most notably the remains of the " pagan wall " ( Mur païen ), a 2.3 km long fortification of unknown age.

The Taennchel is a popular destination which can be hiked from Ribeauvillé, Thannenkirch, Lièpvre or Sainte -Marie -aux -Mines from.
