Taganka Theatre

Taganka Theatre (Russian Театр на Таганке ) is a well-known theater in the Russian capital Moscow. It is located in the city center, at the Garden Ring, next to the metro station Taganskaya (district Tagansky ).

History

The theater was founded by Yuri Lyubimov, director and teacher of the Moscow Shchukin Theatre High School, in 1964. The troupe consisted initially of some students Ljubimows, the theater was originally called the Moscow Theatre of Drama and Comedy ( Московский театр драмы и комедии ), and the first piece was listed there The Good Person of Szechwan by Bertolt Brecht. Over the years, the theater won thanks to good young actor and a wide repertoire of popularity and came again and again in conflict with the government, which had imposed ban on performing some pieces. This led in 1984 to leave Ljubimows from the Soviet Union to the West. After his return, he sat down, however, despite internal disputes of the theater troupe, which led to their splitting up in 1992, successfully for the preservation of the theater one.
