Tage Reedtz-Thott

Kjeld Thor Otto day Reedtz - Thott, Baron of Gavnø, ( born March 13, 1839 in Gavnø, † November 27, 1923 in Gavnø ) is a Danish politician and prime minister ( Statsminister ).

Political career

Member of Parliament

The son of a nobleman acquired after his father's death in 1862 the title of Baron of Castle Gavnø.

In 1873 he then began his political career with the election of Members of Parliament ( Folketing ), where he served until 1884 as a representative of the Conservative Party ( højre ). From 1877 to 1895 he was then a member of the then County Council Præstø.

In 1886 he was elected a member of the then existing House of Lords of the Danish Parliament, the county council, was appointed. This he was a member until 1910. Between 1900 and 1902 he was represented at the interests of the Free Conservative Party ( De Frikonservative ).

Minister and Prime Minister from 1894 to 1897

On 3 June 1892 he was appointed as foreign minister in the cabinet of Jacob Brønnum Scavenius Estrup.

On August 7, 1894, he was appointed as the successor of Estrup Prime Minister ( konseilspræsident ). During his last until May 23, 1897 term of office he retained to continue the post of foreign minister. He tried different from its predecessor by a readier to compromise style of politics. In particular Party ( Venstre ) he succeeded with the support of the Liberals to introduce a tax and customs reform.

Awards

For his political services he was by King Christian IX. won several awards. In addition to the titles Hofjägermeister 1864, Chamberlain 1874 Secret functionary 1897 he was also awarded several stages of Danebrogordens.
