Tahirou Congacou

Tahirou Congacou (* 1913, † 1994) 1965 was briefly head of state of Dahomey, now Benin.

Life

Following the resignation of President Sourou - Migan Apithy Congacou took over on 29 November 1965 in his capacity as President of the Parliament, the Office of Head of State. On 22 December 1965, the Chief of General Staff, General Christophe Soglo himself took the position until he on 19 December 1967, overthrown by a coup.

After the change of course towards a multi-party system since 1972 by the authoritarian ruling President Mathieu Kérékou a Council ( Haut Conseil pour la République) was formed as a provisional supreme legislative body on March 9, 1990. This council were next Congacou to the other ex-President Hubert Maga Coutoucou, Justin Ahomadegbé - Tomêtin and Emile Derlin Henri Zinsou. The transitional period ended on 4 April 1991 with the inauguration of the elected president Nicéphore Dieudonné Soglo.
