Tailgate

Tailgate (English for tailgate, tailgate ) is a trumpet style of hot jazz. It is characterized by an open and robust style of play with an especially prominent glissandi.

The term comes from New Orleans, where jazz bands have been for advertising purposes at the beginning of the 20th century went on carriage through the streets while playing. The trombonist was sitting there on the lowered rear car door so as not to interfere with his colleagues by his far-reaching game movements on the slide trombone.

Earlier representatives of the Tailgate style are Kid Ory, Louis Nelson and George Brunies. Even the game of Roswell Rudd and Fred Lonzo is oriented in this style.
