Taim Ecological Station

Taim is a district in the Munizip Rio Grande in the state of Rio Grande do Sul in southern Brazil.

Nature reserve

The nature reserve Estação Ecológica do Taim has been established on 21 July 1986. Here ² protected the original ecosystems of the coastal plain between the Lagoa Mirim and the Atlantic Ocean in the territory of the municipalities of Santa Vitória do Palmar and Rio Grande to 107.6463 km. Taim is on a list of suggestions for its status as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The geologically young landscape with wetlands, small lagoons and dunes has little height differences. It is important as an intermediate landing site for migratory birds.

The climate is subtropical with a mean annual temperature of 18 ° C. The winters are cold and wet, the summers are hot and dry. It strong winds blow.

The vegetation is lush with aquatic plants, Restinga and swamp forests ( Várzeas ). Biodiversity is high, but is threatened by water requirements of the surrounding agricultural practices, hunting, fishing, fires and collisions with vehicles on the highway.
