Tais

Tais are woven fabrics from Timor. Mostly colored cotton as material is being used. The colorful fabrics are produced primarily for their own use, as well as souvenirs for tourists. The towels differ depending on the region in their patterns. Also, current events, like the World Cup or the independence of East Timor are processed as subjects.

The fabrics are not only similar to the Indonesian sarong, worn as clothing. Especially in East Timor Tais have a high cultural and national importance. Sacred objects are wrapped in it and in the National Parliament of East Timor hang for the Districts Tais on the walls rather than regional flags.
