Taiwan Beer

Taiwan Beer (台湾 啤酒chinese /台湾 啤酒, Pinyin Táiwān Píjǐu or台啤Chinese, Pinyin Taipi ) is one of the Taiwan Tobacco and Liquor Corporation (formerly the Taiwan Tobacco and Wine Monopoly Bureau before privatization ) brewed beer. It is currently the most popular beer in Taiwan with a market share of almost 80%. Compared to other Chinese beers it is not brewed according to the German Purity Law.

Taiwan Beer was first brewed in 1920 with the completion of the first brewery in Taipei. After the Second World War it was produced by the newly formed Tobacco and Wine Monopoly Bureau.

The beer brand is said that it tastes best served cold with local Taiwanese cuisine. The taste is quite tart, which is attributed to the addition of rice during the fermentation process. Taiwan Beer has now gained some foreign competitions such as the " International Monde Selection " in 1977 and the International Brewing Industry Award (s) 2002.

The accession of Taiwan (under the name Separate Customs Territory of Taiwan, Penghu, Kinmen, Matsu and ) and the People's Republic of China to the World Trade Organization in January 2002 allowed the export to mainland China. Despite some efforts to market the brand outside Taiwan, but remained, except for Taiwan and some Taiwanese communities overseas, still largely unknown.

In 2004, a political incident occurred: The People's Republic of China banned the import of Taiwan Beer, since it is forbidden by law to use county or regional name for commercial products. Here, however, the authorities ignored the beer Tsingtao Brewery after the port city of Qingdao in Shandong province was named. This was perceived by many Taiwanese as an insult, which led to boycotts of beer in the People's Republic. To date, Taiwan Beer sold better than any beer from mainland China and abroad in Taiwan.

Taiwan Beer maintains a professional team in the same Taiwanese Super Basketball League. The team is also known by the nickname " The Brew Crew".
