Taizé-Aizie

Taizé Aizie is a commune in the Poitou-Charentes region in the Charente. Administratively, it is assigned to the Canton Ruffec and the district Confolens.

Geography

The village with 587 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) is located 5 km northeast of Ruffec and 58 km south of Poitiers in a flung to the southeast loop of the river Charente in the far north of the department of Charente. The municipality borders the Vienne and the Deux-Sevres is only 5 km away.

History

Aerial photographs have revealed that the village was located near a Roman road. These were I to those ancient Road, which led from Saintes to Charroux and crossed the street of Angouleme to Poitiers near Ruffec.

1731 a blast furnace and two metal refineries were built on the site, who received the hamlet of Les Forges. Today in Les Forges is a corn mill.

The Old Mill Moulin de l' Isle, which processed grain, was rebuilt in the late 19th century to the then modern flour mill Minoterie Bernard.

  • The Romanesque church of the parish of Saint- Pierre was originally part of the Priory of Sainte -Radegonde d' Aizie de Yissia, an offshoot of Notre- Dame de la Réau Abbey ( in today's town of Saint- Martin- l'Ars, Vienne ). The striking bronze bell is dated to the year 1666. The church, which was renovated in the 19th century, since 1943 is a listed building.
