Taizé, Deux-Sèvres

Taizé is a commune in the Poitou-Charentes region in the department of Deux -Sèvres. Administratively, it is assigned to the Canton Thouars - 1 and the district Parthenay.

Geography

The rural municipality with 772 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) located in the north of the department of Deux -Sèvres at the confluence of the Thouet with the Thouaret, at the Department of Road D37 about 10 km south-east of Thouars.

The municipality comprises the villages of Auboué, Ligaine, Maranzais, Maulais and Taizé, which was independently Maulais earlier and was incorporated on January 1, 1973.

The place is known nationally thanks to its sugar melon crops. In addition, the municipality of wines that are marketed under the appellation Vins du Thouars VDQS vinified.

History

With nine dolmens and a tumulus Taizé is the most important megalithic reference in the Deux-Sevres. In the municipality, at the location where field names Fief de Boué, building ruins were uncovered from Gallo-Roman times. The place with the field names La butte de Montcoué 1033 was the scene of a battle between the counties of Anjou and Poitou.

Demographics

The originally a separate municipality Maulais was incorporated on January 1, 1973 by Taizé.
