Peacock commented later to this occupation: "I knew before is that I Jack [ DeJohnette ] wanted, but about the pianist, I was not sure. At the time I was not privy to and did not know Keith. So I asked Manfred [ Eicher ] if he could send me something about his music. "

According to Uwe Andresen reign in vignette, the first track of the album, " an almost - dark melancholy mood " while Tone Field., " A game with sonic mixtures " was strongly oriented towards the free jazz. In contrast, had to hear " almost classical piano trio" in a Major Major. The three-part trilogy was developing in a " very quiet atmosphere " after innocuous, almost traditional parts to form a " collective flight of fancy. "

After the recordings Peacock spoke to the pianist on a joint tour, but he refused, preferring to concentrate on his solo concerts. " Ian Carr called Tales of Another "one of the great records of the decade, and a blueprint for the Keith Jarrett Trio, the six years later began. " six Peacock compositions straddle formal harmonic structures, modal music and more free improvisioerte areas. "The game of all three is incredible. " The critic of the Peterborough Standard in England wrote: ". Because there are some dark moments, perfectly run and supported emotionally, but the prevailing mood is that of controlled exuberance "

The critics Richard Cook and Brian Morton, reviewed the album with the second highest rating of 3 ½ stars in their Penguin Guide to Jazz, were particularly Peacocks bass playing in vignette and in Trilogy I-III show what bring any claim to silence, this was just another Keith Jarrett album, only generously renamed. Indeed, it is Keith Jarrett's last appearance as a sideman. Of course, the pianist was familiar with Peacocks music; this rule in this work a degree of intuition among the musicians who represented the basis for their subsequent performances standards, but it is unmistakably Peacocks plate.

Scott Yanow awarded the album in Allmusic four ( out of five) stars and pointed out that their support for each other through play and the dense COMMUNICATION each other in these sophisticated improvisation was almost impressive and a good example of Peacocks music is. For Jazz Times (1995 ) Gary Peacock's album was one of the excellent sessions Jarrett as a sideman, despite his singing while playing.

Rez Abbasi wrote in the Jazz Times (2012 ) by Major Major, that Peacock as its composer a " twelve-tone Sensiblität for major triads develop, played over a pedal point ". The resulting piece was amazing, and this session marked a new direction in Peacocks development, promoted through the association with ECM.
