Tama Hills

The Tama Hill Country (Japanese多摩丘 陵, Tama - kyūryū ) is a hill country in the Japanese Kanto plain. It extends from the south-west of Tokyo down to the northeastern prefecture of Kanagawa and is bordered in the northeast by the same Tama River. The entire area comprises approximately 300 km ².

Location

The hill country touches that belong to the Prefecture Tokyo City Hachioji, Hino, Tama, Inagi and Machida, and the cities of Kawasaki and Yokohama in Kanagawa Prefecture.

Prehistory

Chance of remains have been excavated from Jomon settlements Age hunters and gatherers.

Post-war period

Since the 1950s, the area has been extensively developed to meet the demand for residential space of the two fast-growing megacities Tokyo and Yokohama justice. The hills take now as a patchwork of new residential suburbs and flat wooded hills and remaining agricultural niches; places still exist large areas of forest. During this period notable settlement projects such as the New Towns Tama and the Kohoku.
