Tampereen Pyrintö (basketball)

Tampere Pyrintö is the basketball department of Tampere Pyrintö from Tampere, Finland.

The basketball department of Tampere Pyrintö was founded in 1941. The home games are borne by the Club in the Pyynikin palloiluhalli from Pyynikki in neighborhood.

History

The basketball department of Tampere Pyrintö was founded in 1941. The first game in the state league Pyrintö completed on February 23, 1952 against Helsingin Kisa - Toverit. In the season 1957/58 Pyrintö won the runner-up, the first medal of the men's team. 1969 won the club the Finnish Cup competition. At the beginning of the 1980s Pyrintö lost twice in the final of the championship, reaching respectively the silver medal. From 1996 to 2005 Pyrintö played under the name Pyrbasket. During these years, reaching a Team Silver Medal (2001) and a second place in the Cup.

Since 2005 Pyrintö play again under his old name. During the 2008/ 09 season, probably most successful time Pyrintös began. With the coach Pieti Poikola and with players like Damon Williams and Antti Nikkilä Pyrintö won a bronze medal in 2009, first in the Finnish championship and second place in the Cup. Then, you won the national championship for the first time in 2010 and 2011 could defend the title.
