Tan Twan Eng

Tan Twan Eng (born 1972 in Penang ) is a writer from Malaysia.

Tan Twan Eng has studied law at the University of London and worked as a lawyer in Kuala Lumpur, before he began to write books.

His first book, The Gift of Rain plays during Japanese occupation of Malaysia and in 2007 reached the shortlist for the Man Booker Prize.

His second book, The Garden of Evening Mists was included in the longlist of the Man Booker Prize in 2012. The novel, which plays at the end of the Japanese occupation of Malaysia, was awarded the Man Asian Literary Prize 2012 for the best book of an Asian authors and the Walter Scott Prize for Historical Fiction 2013.
