Region

Tanout is a town and the capital of the eponymous department Tanout in Niger.

Geography

Tanout is on the edge of the Tenere Desert. The area around the town is one of the driest inhabited by people areas. While in the past the landscape was dominated by Tanout through savannah, now the desert is determinative. The neighboring municipalities are Tenhya in the north, Alakoss in the east, WAME in the southeast, southwest and Gangara Olléléwa in the west.

The urban area is divided into eight districts, 192 administrative villages, 137 traditional villages, 59 hamlets, two camps and 14 water points. The district hot Administratif, Dan Bouzoua, Dan Yari, Hamidan, Issakou, N'Wala, Sahara and Zongon Capitaine.

History

1902 advised the French colonial administration a canton in the region a, the main town in 1915 was Tanout. From 1915 Tanout also the seat of the French military command, which was, however, already reduced in 1918 to the status of a simple military post. The civil administration in place was introduced in 1925. Tanout 1960 was the chief town of the district Tanout, from 1964 emerged the district Tanout and 1998, the Department Tanout.

Economy and infrastructure

Agriculturally, the region is available only for non-sensitive to drought plants. In the vicinity of the city and Durra sorghum are grown. Tanout is the seat of the Tribunal d' Instance, one of the nation's 30 civil courts are below the ten civil courts of first instance (Tribunal de Grande Instance ). The city is located on the National Road 11, which connects the village to the regional capitals Agadez and Zinder.
