The Tapejaridae are a family of Pterosauria, whose fossil remains have been found in China and Brazil.
The Tapejaridae is divided into two subfamilies: the Tapejarinae with the genera Huaxiapterus, Sinopterus, Tapejara and Tupandactylus and Thalassodrominae with the genera Thalassodromeus and Tupuxuara. A study by Lu et al. (2008 ) concludes that the Thalassodrominae are more closely related to the Azhdarchidae than with the Tapejaridae and put them in one 's own family, the Tupuxuaridae together. A study of Martill & Naish (2006), in turn, assigns the Thalassodrominae into the Neoazhdarchia.
Here the classical system with species list:
- Tapejaridae Tapejarinae Huaxiapterus
- Sinopterus
- Tapejara
- Tupandactylus
- Thalassodromeus
- Tupuxuara
With a rearrangement of the Thalassodrominae Tapejaridae would be paraphyletic. Below is a cladogram by Martil & Naish (2006), which favor the spin-off of Thalassodrominae:
Neoazdarchia
Tapejara navigans
Sinopterus dongi
Tupandactylus imperator
Tapejara wellnhoferi
