Taphon

Taphon, also tapone ( Thai: ตะโพน, originally Sa - phon ) is a doubt that time, played horizontally barrel drum used in classical Thai music.

The two membrane surfaces with 22 and 25 centimeters in diameter are recorded with the palms and fingers. Often, the drum carries a woven pattern as a decoration in the middle.

The taphon is almost exclusively in the classical Thai orchestra for wind and percussion instruments, the Pi Phat used. She enjoys a quasi-religious value estimate and is therefore positioned slightly increased in a wooden frame.

A similar instrument is the Cambodian sampho.
