Target 3001

Target 3001! is a program for designing circuits and PCB layout in the development of electronic circuits and printed circuit boards ( PCBs ). The software is developed by the engineering office Friedrich in Germany and runs under the Microsoft Windows operating system. Under Linux, it can be used with the help of Wine with the default configuration of the package (tested with Ubuntu 11.04, 64 -bit).

For non-commercial use there is a free, 250 connections (pins) limited version for download. The user interface of the software is available in German, English or French. In addition, the PCB manufacturers PCB pool as well as the electronics mail order Conrad Electronic full versions offer that can each produce exclusively manufacturing data for production at the two companies.

History

Predecessor of Target 3001 is developed 1989 PCB Software Rule, which ran under DOS. Its name was an acronym that stood PCB design for computer supporters. Once this software had been used in hobbyist circles, the call for a schematic entry was loud among the users. Likewise, an autorouter was desired, so an automatic interconnect unbundling. In 1992, the target version 2.1 for DOS on the market, which was these desires in a first step statement. The transition to Windows proved to be difficult, the first versions of target V3 for Windows often rushed off. With increasing stability and performance of the overall package, the software was used except in the hobby and training in the professional environment. In the other versions V7 to V16 the package was removed and an EMC module and a PSpice -compatible simulation complemented the scope of services. The name " Target " was first changed to " TARGET 2001! " And later as a registered " TARGET 3001! " As a trademark with the German Patent Office.

Lately, the software was an added feature to design your front panels directly in connection with the circuit boards. In addition, a 3D view has been added, which provides a visual impression of its circuit board. After a survey of the magazine Elektor (issue 05/ 2004, pp. 73), the software was used at the second most readership.

Functions

The software package combines several different functional blocks together under a single user interface. The design process starts with the design of a circuit diagram, the final product is a layout for a circuit board. Schematic and Layout get stored in a common file. In the design of the automatic forward and Rückwärtsannotation circuit layout and keeps consistent.

An important component of the supplied block libraries. Librarianship in the target has changed several times:

  • Prior to version V12 local component libraries have been installed,
  • Version V12 a basis of about 1000 components was just installed. Other components could be downloaded from the target out of an online component server
  • With version V14 all component libraries have been re-installed and
  • Version V15 the components in a parametrically searchable SQL database to be managed.

A component is the circuit diagram representation of a circuit symbol and the layout of a connection diagram that fits the casing of the device. Among the components links can be saved to component datasheets and suppliers. Both component symbols and component housing can be designed freely. The housings 3D models can be created.

With the SPICE compatible circuit diagram simulation, the operation of the circuit can be automatically pre- calculated. To electrical simulation models in the library are stored on many devices.

To design the layout are a Autoplatzierer and an autorouter for automatically routing the circuit board are available. The Design Rule Check examine the design then short circuits and other violations of preset design rules about spacing and minimum drill diameter.

Target supports common output formats for the printed circuit board manufacturing Building and Equipping, such as Gerber data.
