Tarisa Watanagase

Tarisa Watanagase; Thai: ธา ริ ษา วัฒน เกส, Pronunciation: t ʰ ā ː ː rísǎ Watt ʰ Anake ː t; ( Born November 30, 1949) is a Thai economist.

Life and career

Tarisa was on 8 November 2006 to 30 September 2010 Head of the Central Bank of Thailand. She was succeeded by Pridiyathorn Devakula after this finance ministers of the transitional government was. Previously, she was the deputy head of the central bank. She was the first woman to head the central bank in its history 64 -year-old.

Since 1975 tarisa works for the central bank, whose deputy chief it was 1992. She studied at the Japanese Keio University and the United States, she completed her doctorate at Washington University in Economics. From 1988 to 1990 she worked for the International Monetary Fund.

Tarisas monetary policy pursued a protectionist approach. She is responsible for the provision introduced in 2006 that foreign investors must deposit 30% of their invested capital in Thailand without interest at the central bank. In 2007, she received an honorary doctorate from Keio University.
