Tart

Tarte called in French cuisine a cake from a special type of pastry that is completely, usually produced without the addition of salt or sugar, so tasteless. He can be both savory and sweet occupied. It is sometimes baked in special flat round baking pans with serrated edge, even in a springform pan. There are different variants with spicy vegetables, sometimes meat or fish, which are usually doused with a cream - egg mixture. The savory tarts can be a main meal.

Common variants are:

  • Tarte aux fromages, with cheese ( quiche in different variations )
  • Tarte aux pommes, topped with apples
  • Tarte aux cerises, cherries
  • Tarte aux framboises, with raspberries
  • Tarte Tatin or Tarte du Chef, a "head down " baked apple pie

In small tart molds baked cakes called tartlets.

Regional and other types of cakes or pies are in France, however, referred to as tart, to the Alsatian Tarte flambé ( Tarte ) with bacon and onions. Another special variant is the quiche.
